Text:
Hebrews 11:4; 12:24
4
By faith
Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he
obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts:
and by
it he being dead yet speaketh.
24
And to
Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
sprinkling, that
speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Introduction:
Hebrews
12:18-25
18
For ye are not come
unto the mount that might be
touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and
darkness, and
tempest,
19
And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they
that heard
intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20
(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as
a beast
touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21
And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and
quake:)
22
But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city
of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23
To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written
in
heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the
spirits of just men made
perfect,
24
And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the
blood of
sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25
See that
ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused
him that
spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him
that
speaketh from heaven:
1. Abel’s
blood yet speaketh
a. Abel’s
blood crying out to God
Hebrews
11:4
By
faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent
sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was
righteous, God
testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
Genesis
4:10
And
he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy
brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
b. What
is Abel’s blood saying?
1. Crying
out for Justus and Vengeance
Genesis
4:10
And
he said,
What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth
unto me from
the ground.
Revelation
6:9-10
9
And when he had opened
the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that
were slain for
the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And
they cried
with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true,
dost thou not
judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
1
John 3:12
Not
as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his
brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works
were evil, and his
brother's righteous.
2. Crying
out bring despair
Genesis
4:13
And
Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater
than I can bear.
2. The
blood of Jesus speaking better things than Abel
a. Jesus
blood speaks
Hebrews
12:24
And
to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to
the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh
better things than that of
Abel.
b.
What better things does the blood of Jesus speak?
1. Abel’s
blood cries out for Justus and Vengeance, The blood of
Jesus speaks of Grace and Mercy
1
John 1:7
But
if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ
his Son cleanseth
us from all sin.
Matthew
26:27-28
27 And
he took the
cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye
all of it;
28 For
this is my blood of the new testament, which is
shed for many for the remission of sins.
1
Peter 1:18-19
18 Forasmuch
as ye
know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as
silver and gold,
from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a
lamb without blemish and without spot:
Ephesians
1:7
In
whom we have redemption through his blood,
the forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians
2:13
But
now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off
are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Revelation
5:9
And
they
sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open
the
seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to
God by thy blood
out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
2. Abel’s
blood crying out brings despair, the blood of
Jesus speaks and brings peace
Romans
5:1
Therefore
being justified by faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
1
Timothy 1:2
Unto
Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace,
mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
Titus
1:4
To
Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace,
mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ our
Saviour.
2
John 3
Grace
be with you, mercy, and peace,
from God the Father,
and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the
Father, in truth and
love.
3. Abel
first to die because
of sin, Jesus the first to die for our sin
a. Abel
died because of Cain’s sin
Matthew
23:35
That
upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the
earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son
of
Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
b. Jesus
died because of our sins
Hebrews
12:2
Looking
unto Jesus the
author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before
him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right
hand of
the throne of God.
4. The
Blood
Of Jesus Speaking, But Are We Listening?
a. Abel’s
blood yet speaks of your sins – and requires Justus
and Vengeance which brings Despair
Romans
3:23
For
all have sinned, and
come short of the glory of God;
b. Jesus
bloods speaks better things about your sins – and gives
Grace and Mercy which brings Peace
Romans
3:24-26
24
Being justified freely by his grace through
the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation
through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the
remission of
sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26
To declare, I say, at
this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier
of him
which believeth in Jesus.
c. Are
you listening?
