Text:
Isaiah 1:3
The
ox knoweth his
owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel
doth not know, my people
doth not consider.
Introduction:
a. Isaiah
speaks of many contradictions:
1. Isaiah
55:1 …and
he that hath no money; come
ye, buy, and eat;…
2.
3.
1. Who
Is Smarter you or an
ox or a donkey?
a. The
ox knows his owner – do you?
Jeremiah
2:27
Saying
to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou
hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not
their
face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save
us.
Psalms
139:14-17
14
I will praise thee;
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and
that my
soul knoweth right well. 15
My substance was not
hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the
lowest
parts of the earth.
16
Thine eyes did see my
substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were
written,
which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how
great is the sum of them!
1
Peter 1:18-21
18
Forasmuch as ye know
that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold,
from
your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19
But with the precious
blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20
Who verily was
foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in
these last
times for you,
21
Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the
dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
b. The
donkey knows his master – do you?
Luke
9:57-62
57
And it came to pass,
that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I
will follow
thee whithersoever thou goest.
58
And Jesus said unto
him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of
man hath
not where to lay his head.
59
And he said unto
another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury
my
father.
60
Jesus said unto him,
Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom
of God.
61
And another also
said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell,
which
are at home at my house.
62
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to
the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
2. Do
Not Know – Do Not
Consider
a. Things
to know and consider
1. The
Lord is still on his throne
Isaiah
6:1
In
the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord
sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the
temple.
2. The
Lord has give us a sign above all signs
Isaiah
7:14
Therefore
the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a
virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
3. The
Lord ministry in Galilee
Isaiah
9:1-2
1
Nevertheless the
dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he
lightly
afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward
did more
grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee
of the
nations.
2
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great
light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them
hath the
light shined.
Matthew
4:13-16
13
And leaving Nazareth,
he came and dwelt in Capernaum,
which is upon the sea coast, in
the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: 14
That it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15
The land
of Zabulon,
and the land
of Nephthalim,
by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan,
Galilee of the
Gentiles;
16
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to
them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
4. The
Lord has given us the greatest gift.
Isaiah
9:6
For
unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful,
Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
5. The
Lord is tender hearted
Isaiah
42:2-3
2
He shall not cry, nor
lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
3 A
bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax
shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
Matthew
12:18-20
6. The
Lord was humiliated
Isaiah
50:6
I
gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that
plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
7. The
Lord died for our sins
Isaiah
53:3-5 3
He is despised and
rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we
hid as it
were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4
Surely he hath borne
our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of
God, and afflicted.
5
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised
for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and
with his
stripes we are healed.
8. The
Lord met God’s need for a sacrifice
Isaiah
53:10-11
10
Yet it pleased the
Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his
soul an
offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and
the
pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11
He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be
satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many;
for he
shall bear their iniquities.
9. The
Lord intercedes for us
Isaiah
53:12
Therefore
will I divide him a portion with the great, and he
shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his
soul
unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the
sin of
many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
10. The
Lord came to restore all thing unto God
Isaiah
61:2-3
2
To proclaim the
acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to
comfort
all that mourn;
3
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them
beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise
for the
spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness,
the
planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
Luke
4:21
And he began to say unto
them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
