Colossians 3:11
Where
there is neither
Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian,
bond nor
free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Introduction:
We
have here verses that
tell us what Christ does for us and verse that tell us what to do and
not to
do.
What
to do
and not to do:
Verse
2, 5, 8, 9, 10a
I
fail at what I am to
do, but Christ never fails at what he does for and through me.
What
Christ does for us:
Verses
1, 3, 4, 10b, 11
Let
us consider the
statement Christ is All (Christ is everything) and in All.
CHRIST
is all in all to
everyone who has truly found Him. He is our Savior, Redeemer,
Deliverer,
Shepherd, Teacher, and also sustains toward us many more offices, to
which I
desire to call your attention.
1. Christ
is our SAVIOR
a. Luke
2:10-11
10,
And the angel said
unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great
joy, which
shall be to all people.
11,
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a
Saviour, which is
Christ the Lord.
b. John
3:17
For
God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the
world; but that the world through him might be saved.
c. John
1:12
But
as many as received him, to them gave he power to become
the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
2. But
He is still more; Christ
is our REDEEMER
a. Supposing
I saw a man tumble into a river, and I were to jump in and rescue him,
I should
be a savior to him - I should have saved him. But when I brought the
man
ashore, I should probably leave him, and do nothing further.
b. But
the Lord does more. He not only saves us, but He
redeems us - that is, buys us back. He ransoms us from the power of
sin, as if
I should promise to watch over that rescued man forever, and see that
he did
not again fall into the water. The Lord not only saves us from
spiritual death,
but He redeems us forever that death can never touch us.
c. Galatians
4:5
To
redeem them that were under the law, that we might
receive the adoption of sons.
d. Titus
2:14
Who
gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all
iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good
works.
3. But
He is still more;
Christ is our DELIVERER
a. The
children of Israel were not only saved and redeemed from the bondage of
the Egyptians, but
they
were also delivered, that they should not be led back again into
bondage. Many
are afraid; they think they are not able to hold on, and therefore
shrink from
making a profession. But Christ is able to keep you from falling; He is
able to
deliver you in the dark hour of trial and temptation, from every evil
device of
Satan, and from the snare of the fowler.
b. 2
Corinthians 1:10
Who
delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in
whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
c. Galatians
1:4
Who
gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from
this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
d. 1
Corinthians 10:13
There
hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to
man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above
that ye
are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that
ye may
be able to bear it.
4. But
He is still more;
Christ is our SHEPHERD
a. Psalms
23:1-6
1,
The Lord is my
shepherd; I shall not want.
2,
He maketh me to lie
down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3,
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4,
Yea, though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for
thou art
with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5,
Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with
oil; my
cup runneth over.
6,
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of
my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
b. John
10:4
And
when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before
them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
c. John
10:14
I
am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of
mine.
5. Closing
a. Christ
is our SAVIOR, REDEEMER, DELIVERER and SHEPHERD, but He is still more.
He is
Almighty, Author & Finisher, Beloved, Bread of Life,
Bridegroom, Bright
Morning Star, Chief Corner Stone, Creator, Counselor, The Door,
Emmanuel,
Everlasting Father, First Born High Priest, Judge, King of King, Lord
of Lords,
Lamb of God, The Living Water, Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Mighty God,
Prince
of Peace, Wonderful.
Do
you know him?
b. Matthew
11:28-30
28,
Come unto me, all ye
that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29,
Take my yoke upon
you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall
find rest
unto your souls.
30,
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
c. Now
that we know what Christ does for us, consider what we are to do.
Verses
1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 10a
1b,
…seek those things which are above,…
2,
Set your affection on things above,
not on
things on the earth.
5, Mortify
therefore your members…
8,
But now ye also put off…
9,
…seeing that ye have put off the old man
with his
deeds;
10,
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in
knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11, Where there is neither Greek
nor Jew, circumcision nor
uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all,
and in
all.
