Text:
Luke 2:13-14
13,
And
suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host
praising
God, and saying,
14,
Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Introduction:
At
the birth of Jesus
there was more Angel activate than at any other time.
Hebrews
2:2
For
if the word spoken
by angels was stedfast,
and every transgression and disobedience received a just
recompence of reward;
Consider
three messages
from the Angels concerning the birth of Jesus:
1. To
Joseph – call his
name Jesus
a. Matthew
1:21
And
she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his
name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Isaiah
6 and Revelation 4-5 describe angels around the
throne of God.
Who
do you thang sent these angels? Of course God himself
did. God said to the Angel go tell Joseph to call
Him Jesus.
b. Matthew
1:23
Behold,
a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth
a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being
interpreted is,
God with us.
2. To
Mary - called the Son
of the Highest
a. Luke
1:31-33
31,
And, behold, thou
shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his
name
JESUS.
32,
He shall be great,
and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the
Lord God shall give
unto him the throne of his father David:
33,
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and
of his kingdom there shall be no end
3. To
the Shepherds – a
Savior, Christ the Lord
a. Luke
2:11
For
unto you is born this day in the city of David a
Saviour, which
is Christ the Lord.
4. And
the Angels Were
Silent
At
the birth of Christ there was a lot of activity
surrounding the birth of Jesus, but at his death there was none. Only
one
reference to an angel at the Garden of
Gethsemane
a. Luke
22:43-44
43
And there appeared an
angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his
sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
b. Matthew
26:53
Thinkest
thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he
shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
5. Closing
a. Matthew
28:1-2
1
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the
first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see
the
sepulchre.
2
And, behold,
there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from
heaven,
and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
b. Matthew
28:5-6
5
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not
ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here:
for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
